This was a project where I illustrated 2 poems, both digitally and traditionally. The first iteration is traditional, and the second is digital. I had asked illustrator James Browne to mentor me throughout this assignment, and critique me along the way. Through his guidance, I was able to illustrate whimsical and cozy scenes using imagery from my selected poems. It was James Browne's book of illustrations and poetry that inspired this project.
Theme in Yellow
Carl Sandburg
I spot the hills
With yellow balls in autumn.
I light the prairie cornfields
Orange and tawny gold clusters
And I am called pumpkins.
On the last of October
When dusk is fallen
Children join hands
And circle round me
Singing ghost songs
And love to the harvest moon;
I am a iack-o'-lantern
With terrible teeth
And the children know
I am fooling.

WISHES
Dora Sigerson Shorter
I wish we could live as the flowers live,
To breathe and to bloom in the summer and sun;
To slumber and sway in the heart of the night,
And to die when our glory had done.
I wish we could love as the bees love,
To rest or to roam without sorrow or sigh;
With laughter, when, after the wooer had won,
Love flew with a whispered good-bye.
I wish we could die as the birds die,
To fly and to fall when our beauty was best:
No trammels of time on the years of our face;
And to leave but an empty nest.
